Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large onion, sliced into rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray (for spraying on the onion rings)

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Onion

  • Slice the onion into rings, about ½-inch thick. Separate the rings and set them aside.

Step 2: Prepare the Dipping Stations

  • In a small bowl, mix the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • In a second bowl, beat the eggs until smooth.
  • In a third bowl, add the panko breadcrumbs.

Step 3: Dredge the Onion Rings

  • Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, making sure it’s well-coated.
  • Next, dip the flour-coated onion ring into the beaten eggs, then coat it in the panko breadcrumbs. Press down gently to ensure the breadcrumbs stick.

Step 4: Preheat the Air Fryer

  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes.

Step 5: Air Fry the Onion Rings

  • Arrange the coated onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Spray lightly with cooking spray to help them crisp up.
  • Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for about 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

  • Remove the onion rings from the air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce!

Notes

Don’t overcrowd the air fryer – Give each onion ring enough space to crisp up properly. You may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
Season the breadcrumbs – Feel free to add additional seasonings to the panko breadcrumbs to customize the flavor.
Double dip for extra crunch – For even crunchier onion rings, dip them in the egg and breadcrumbs a second time.
