Ingredients

For the Twists:
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
⅓ cup light brown sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Optional Glaze:
½ cup powdered sugar
1–2 tablespoons milk
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prep
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C)
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside

Step 2: Make the Cinnamon Filling
In a bowl, mix melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until smooth

Step 3: Roll and Fill the Dough
Lightly flour your surface and roll out the puff pastry into a 10×12-inch rectangle
Spread the cinnamon mixture evenly across the entire surface

Step 4: Fold and Cut
Fold the puff pastry in half lengthwise to sandwich the filling
Cut the dough into 1-inch wide strips
Twist each strip 2–3 times and place on the baking sheet

Step 5: Bake
Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed
Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes

Step 6: Coat or Glaze
While warm, toss the twists in cinnamon sugar
Or drizzle with glaze made from powdered sugar and milk once slightly cooled

Notes

Use cold puff pastry – it’s easier to work with and puffs better in the oven
Don’t overfill – spreading the filling evenly prevents leaks
Twist evenly – helps the twists bake uniformly
Glaze while warm – it melts beautifully into the pastry for extra flavor
Store leftovers in an airtight container to keep them crisp
