Ingredients

Scale

For the Cobbler Batter:

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon-Sugar Topping:

  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 ½ cups hot water

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat & Prepare

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Pour the melted butter into a 9×9-inch or 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 2: Make the Batter

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth (don’t overmix).
  3. Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter. Do not stir.

Step 3: Add the Cinnamon-Sugar Topping

  1. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon.
  2. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the batter.
  3. Carefully pour the hot water over the top. Do not stir—this creates a gooey, caramel-like layer as it bakes!

Step 4: Bake & Serve

  1. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  2. Let cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
  3. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Don’t Stir the Layers – Letting the batter, sugar, and hot water layer naturally creates the best texture.
Use Fresh Cinnamon – For the most aromatic, warm flavor.
Serve Warm – The gooey, cinnamon-buttery sauce is best right out of the oven!
