Ingredients
- Unsalted Butter (1 cup, softened) – The key to rich, buttery cookies.
- Granulated Sugar (½ cup) – Adds just the right amount of sweetness.
- Egg Yolk (1 large) – Creates a tender texture.
- Vanilla Extract (1 tsp) – Adds warmth and depth of flavor.
- All-Purpose Flour (2 cups, sifted) – Ensures a light and delicate cookie.
- Salt (¼ tsp) – Enhances the flavors.
- Milk (1 tbsp, optional) – Helps the dough come together if needed.
- Pink or Red Sprinkles (for decoration) – Adds a festive touch.
- White or Pink Chocolate (½ cup, melted, optional) – For dipping or drizzling.
Instructions
Step 1: Cream the Butter and Sugar
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
Step 2: Add the Dry Ingredients
Gradually mix in the sifted flour and salt, stirring until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels too dry, add a tablespoon of milk.
Step 3: Chill the Dough
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This makes rolling and cutting easier.
Step 4: Roll & Cut the Cookies
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼-inch thickness. Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out cookies and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Step 5: Bake to Perfection
Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Let them cool completely on a wire rack.
Step 6: Decorate & Enjoy!
Drizzle with melted white or pink chocolate, or dip half of each cookie for a festive look. Add sprinkles before the chocolate sets for extra charm.
Notes
- Use Softened Butter: Cold butter won’t cream properly.
- Chill the Dough: This prevents the cookies from spreading too much.
- Don’t Overbake: They should be just golden around the edges.
